Here are just a few points that you need to be aware of when improving your computer workstation setup.

Desk and chair

Seat height

  • Your chair needs to be at a height where your forearms are parallel to or slightly above the desk with your shoulders relaxed and elbows at approximately 90 degrees.
  • Adjust your seat height so that your feet are flat on the floor, knees are bent at right angles and thighs are parallel to the floor.
  • If your feet don’t rest comfortably on the floor, use a footrest.

Chair

  • Ensure that the chair is height adjustable.
  • Check out how the adjustments on the chair work so you can set it up as per your requirement.
  • A chair with no armrests is highly recommended as it enables you to sit in close to the desk.

Positioning your keyboard

  • Position your keyboard close to your body, approximately 8cm from the edge of the desk to avoid over-reaching. You should be able to relax your shoulders and have your elbows hanging close to your body and forearms parallel to the keyboard.
