Telehealth with a chiropractor

Telehealth with a chiropractor? We are ready to serve you Book Online Now

Dear clients,

As you are aware the Federal Health Minister has confirmed that ALL allied health businesses nationally can continue working (current as of 24 Mar 2020). Allied health businesses are encouraged to continue to serve their clients with musculoskeletal pain (back pain/ neck pain/ shoulder pain, etc) as this will keep pressure off GP clinics and hospitals.

Please rest assured that at Body Mind Central we are following proper infectious diseases control guidelines as outlined by NSW Health and WHO.

The Minister also indicated that the Australian Government Department of Health is now developing full allied health telehealth options. This will be part of a staged plan and he encourages providers to continue vital face-to-face services where possible.

In light of the roll-out of telehealth initiative, we are now ready to provide telehealth consultations for Psychology and Chiropractic.

What does this mean for you?

You are encouraged to attend the centre for your face-to-face psychology and chiropractic consultations and treatments. However, if you are self-isolating or otherwise concerned about leaving your home, it is important for continuity of your care that you consider a telehealth consultation.

What is telehealth?

It is a consultation over a secure video call or telephone line with your health care practitioner.

I understand how telehealth can work for psychology consultations, but how will it work for my chiropractic sessions?

Good question. The most obvious point is that there will not be any hands-on treatment. Most clients find this to be the best part of their visits, however, there are many other things that you experience during consultations that contribute to your recover and outcome. Please consider this mode of consultation outlined below.

Telehealth consultations with your chiropractor for:

  • Advice and reassurance about your health concern
    • Discussion about your back / neck/ shoulder pain etc
  • Explanation about your problem
    • If you have previously been a client of our centre then you would have received a comprehensive physical examination, diagnosis and prognosis. Due to the inability to perform a comprehensive physical examination vie telehealth a new diagnosis is not possible. However, a probable and likely identification of your presenting complaint can be surmised. Although, it is important to attend for a face-to-face consultation to verify once your self-isolation has ended. This is important as a clear and definitive diagnosis can impact management and self-care advice.
  • Exercise prescription and revisions
    • Through the video link-up, your chiropractor will demonstrate your prescribed exercises. You will have the chance to try the exercise and confirm that you are performing it as instructed.
  • Prevention and injury management guidance
    • Prevention strategies are so important in musculoskeletal health. You will have the opportunity to show us your home-computer set-up. Self-isolation will mean that you are probably spending a lot of time at your computer. This can contribute to back and neck pain. So best to get this checked before it starts producing postural problems for you.

So all-in-all there is a lot you can achieve and receive in a telehealth consultation with your chiropractor. The next question you might have is about fees.

What does a telehealth consultation with your chiropractor cost and what is included?

Presently, neither Medicare nor Australian Health Funds are contributing to telehealth consultation for chiropractors, although this may change as circumstances around COVID-19 continue. So, to make it easier and more affordable for you at this difficult time fees for telehealth consultation are:
